What is BJC?
Bedford Jewish Community (BJC) held its kick off event in 1967 with a Yom Kippur dance at the Arrowhead Hotel on The Great
Road. The hotel, like the rest of The Great Road, has seen many changes. BJC has stayed on course, continuing
to plan innovative activities and create a community forum for connecting Bedford’s Jewish citizens.
BJC provides a social, cultural
and religious gathering point for Bedford’s Jewish and interfaith households.
Mission of the BJC
Bedford’s location provides ample opportunity for temple membership. BJC promotes a community relationship among Bedford’s Jewish and interfaith residents apart from temple affiliation. And we are a voice for our community on pertinent issues within Bedford. Thanks to the efforts of founding BJC members, land in the Shawsheen Cemetery was consecrated as a Jewish burial ground for town residents.Communication

Community Outreach
Donations: BJC dues fund annual
contributions to many important town functions. Some examples of these gifts include:
High school
year book
All night graduation party
Books and audio materials for the
public library and the schools
Service: Adult and teen members provide food and serve meals for seniors at the town food pantry.
Communication:
Calendar information is sent to town officials to minimize scheduling conflicts with Jewish holidays.
Activities
Our members organize a broad range of activities throughout the September – June membership year.
Family Events: Adults and children alike enjoy our parties for Hanukkah, Purim and Sukkot. Traditional foods, songs, crafts and often a pick-up
basketball or soccer game is played.
Activities are designed to meet the
interests of group members and are
subsidized by BJC. Leadership is
shared by all members to encourage
unity and enthusiasm.
Snow tubing at Nashoba, followed by dim sum, has become
a popular winter treat. Pool parties, barbecues, trips to local sporting events and more keep the BJC lively for our younger
set.
Adult Events: BJC offers a variety of “night out” opportunities beginning with the Progressive Dinner each September. Other events have included: bowling night, summer BBQ, gourmet groups, theater parties, speakers, and museum trips. A list of
member teens who wish to baby sit is provided as a membership benefit.
